SLOVENSKI APARTHEID GRE NAPREJ

Delovna Skupina za Azil

English bellow.

SLOVENIAN APARTHEID CONTINUES

The republic of Slovenia is, on paper, a country with regulated human rights – equality before the law, regardless of race, gender, religion, etc. In practice, however, these standards tend to get loose at job positions and even much looser when it comes to foreign workers.

There was a recent media report about 450 Turkish workers coming to Slovenia, to work on the infamous Second rail for three years. Everyone is very clear about the purpose of this action – everyone involved, including the mayor and the village community representative are even bragging about the Turks “working seven days a week”, about their “movements being controlled at all times” and about them staying in “a self-sufficient system” of containers under a local barn, where they will be “monitored 24/7”. Therefore a fenced complex will be constructed inside the village of Orehek, which the workers will not be allowed to leave freely. In return the local municipality will get some money. To summarise, ‘Kolektor’ company’s concessionaires have hired Turkish subcontractor, explicitly to purposely break the laws and work standards that Slovenian workers have fought for. And they have audacity to brag about it!

There is another concentration camp for foreigners under development close to Postojna (called “campus” as a pet name), structurally mimicking Postojna foreigner centre (Center za tuje Postojna) – except this one is run by a private corporation. Capitalists are not only buying work force and letting their employees have a free time, yet they are buying people to own them 24 hours a day. This doesn’t seem to alarm or surprise anyone – not the mayor, not the local community, not the syndicates, and not even the reporters. They are accepting without scepticism that a PRIVATE COMPANY is deciding peoples’ freedoms in the middle of Slovenia! They don’t find it strange that the Turks will work longer than allowed by Slovenian law. Of course, they don’t have interest in their personal lives, their interests, their worker, cultural or political rights. The same people that would in the name of “national interest” squeeze foreign workers in the concentration camps with a smile, are the ones that have no problems moralising about “foreigners not wanting to integrate”.

This type of employment needs to be stopped promptly! Slovenian capitalists are already inhumanely abusing foreign workers and pushing them at the edge of society – we cannot allow the normalisation of slave workforce and apartheid system, practiced in the Gulf States! We demand that Kolektor resigns these kinds of subcontractor contracts promptly! All workers in Slovenia must be treated under EQUAL STANDARDS – meaning (aside from other rights) having free time, that can be spent however and wherever the workers wish!
